Even me, the Professional Organizer has to practice organizing or shall I say reorganizing. Every day I open up my top drawer to retrieve socks and underwear. Today I really looked at it and thought "this does not work". Things felt too crowded and I had accumulated items that didn't belong. It was time to shift things around.
The best way to do this, which is pretty much true for all organizing projects. Take everything out first before attempting to organize. I tell my clients that is always gets worse before it gets better. I pulled out the drawer, dumped the contents and then started sorting and eliminating. In less than 5 minutes I had a new look that felt lighter and more efficient.
Organizing is an on going process that evolves and changes...just like us!
Try this. Close your eyes. Picture one part of your home that you really don't want to look at. Open your eyes and go there. Look at it. Now you know what do. Follow the same steps I applied to my drawer. Oh and have some bags handy for donation and/or trash.
